Cryptics appear as ” … willowy creatures with cloaks that split down the front and hang at the sides too stiffly, as if they were made of glass. Above the stiff, high collars, where their heads should be, are large, floating symbols of twisted design full of impossible angles and geometries.”[4]
With Halloween 2017 over, I’m diving straight into creating my Cryptic costume. The head is going to be made from three layers laser cut acrylic sheets mounted to a clock movement which will be mounted on a hat of some variety. I can’t actually make ‘impossible angles and geometries’ without invoking the Elder Gods and going mad but I’ve pulled the designs from the in-book art ostensibly drawn by Shallan. I’m hoping that a high torque clock movement can support and rotate the pattern pieces since they’re a bit heavier than waffer thin clock hands. I also hope (and I think they will, though I’ve never fixed up a clock before) that 2mm thick acrylic will fit onto the movement. I’m also tossing up some preliminary brainstorming and concept gathering for the costume as a whole.
